Adelyn TS #9

 Date/Time: January 31st, 5pm

Location: Hecht House

Topic/Skill: During this second part of the session, Aras and I focused on continuing going over the verb tenses. He understood the simple and continuous but when it came time to perfect and perfect continuous we had to spend a bit of extra time. Overall he understood and we came up with tampons of good examples and a paragraph included one of each (I provided example verbs). With the remaining time I had him select an article and he then wrote a small list of unfamiliar vocabulary words and we then went over them. We ended the session with a verbal summary and his opinion.

Feedback provided to tutee: I didn’t have to give too much feedback in this session because it was mainly learning and practicing again. When it came to the struggles I just helped him through thorough and understandable explanations and creating example situations and examples for him. I also gave him feedback in his verbal summary to include transition words since he is at a level where he could use them, as well as trying not to look at the screen and read.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that he definitely didn't see a use for all the verb tenses, he said there should only be one and that he doesn't think they make a difference. I think I need to try to get him more interested because he said that he barely pays attention in class, yet he somehow knows everything and is able to use it. He also doesn't know the names for grammar terms, but is at least able to use them all. I just need to find ways to get him more excited about learning and the language because he is definitely bored and frustrated in his classes.
