Topic/Skill: Needs help developing mainly his speaking and listening skills, but also some reading/writing. His primary goal is to develop his ability to use English in casual conversation.

Feedback provided to tutee: I got to know Do-Jun Kim a little bit by familiarizing myself with the culture he grew up in which was Korean-based. He lives in Seoul now which means there is a 14-hour time difference. He had six years of previous English learning experience in school which led me to find he was quite good at speaking English and knew quite a few words. My impression was that, since he did speak slower, I could focus on helping build his confidence and understanding of grammar and structure. He was careful about the way he spoke English which may cause me to encourage him to speak a little faster while not worrying about errors. That way I may better discern what aspects regarding grammar he truly needs to improve upon.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Some things I learned about Do-Jun Kim include that he has a day job and is helping his wife raise their 2.5-year-old daughter which keeps them pretty busy. His 6 years of English learning have stuck with him pretty well and he keeps up his learning by listening to the Korean Education Learning radio station which is focused on learning English. His school was mostly focused on testing and memorization, therefore, he needs help learning English as a skill through using it and using it confidently. He may also benefit from getting to know American/English pop culture a bit more.
