Topic/Skill: I found that Jewon Lee needs help refining his speaking and listening skills. He also could use some help with writing and reading but seemed to be a bit more advanced in those areas. I think the primary goal is to help him improve his English overall in a way that makes it more rewarding for him.


Feedback provided to tutee: Jewon struggled quite a bit with speaking English so I encouraged him to take his time thinking through his responses. When he tried to speak, I occasionally repeated what he said so that he could hear how I would pronounce things. I even encouraged him to repeat after me when he shared some of his favorite lyrics. This encouraged him to work on bettering his pronunciation. I told him we could start with working on his writing and reading skills and work up to practicing speaking. However, I still spoke what I was typing so he could get familiar with the pronunciation and I urged him to do the same when he was sharing his answers. If he didn't understand a term I used, I did my best to elaborate. 


Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: As a 15-year-old boy, it is difficult for Jewon to understand or use much English. He only has 3 years of English under his belt and his mother even shared he finds it to be difficult to gain interest in. For these reasons, I recognize I will have to alter the pace of my lessons and have more patience when working with him. I think it will be helpful to incorporate things relating to music into his tutoring as that is one of his interests. I think I might be able to turn the songs that we talked about today, which he also expressed a liking for, into some lessons that will help him better understand and use English.
