Topic/Skill: Needs Assessment

Feedback provided to the tutee: We discussed Wei’s academic goals and standing. She told me about her textbooks and homework that we will be able to use as material, as well as how we will plan for our sessions when she gives me topics she will want to focus on during that meeting ahead of time.

Lessons learned: I was able to get a good understanding of Wei as a person, her academic, and her personal goals. She especially wants to use our time to practice her speaking skills while learning about American culture. Wei is rather fluent, just stutters slightly while I can see the gears turn as she searches for the right word.

He told me about his visit to the Museum of Natural History, the Empire State Building, and Central Park. His hometown is known for its chaotic traffic, and New York’s heavy traffic also reminded him of home. When he told me he had taken the subway rather than a car to commute during his stay, I mentioned how cool that seems as I have never been on a subway. He was shocked!
