Adelyn TS #11

Date/Time: February 5th, 3 pm

Location: Hecht House

Topic/Skill: During this session, Yara and I spent the whole hour going over grammar. We looked at all the different types of nouns, verbs, and adjectives. I had her do both written and verbal practice as we came up with example sentences for all. We also played a time game to see how many sentences she could create with each type of noun. We ended the session preparing her for her quiz on wednesday, by reviewing the different tenses and understanding them better.

Feedback provided to tutee: Instead of only having her focus on saying examples and speaking her comprehension, I had her write on the whiteboard. Here I found quite a few spelling errors, especially with plural words and words such as draw or toward→ she would say "drow" or "toword". I firstly said there's something wrong and gave her the opportunity to guess, when she didn't know I helped her. After saying what was wrong I gave her a compliment on her sentence and for knowing the vocabulary, then I went over why it was wrong and how to properly spell, in addition to knowing some patterns.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I used a different approach where I had her interact a little more and do a bit more guessing to understand her comprehension. She surprised me a lot, she knows so much and is improving but I also learned that she needs help with spelling and the concept of articles and situations with plurals. She also really likes improving and working on things that are hard so that she can use them.
