Adelyn TS #14
Date/Time: February 5th, 8 pm
Location: Zoom
Topic/Skill: During this session, Jeah and I started off with a recap of nouns (all the different types) and adjectives. She provided examples, when to use, and we worked on examples in sentences. Today's goal was learning, understanding, and using verbs. I started off with the definition and showed the three main types. We went over each type with examples, pictures, and sentences. Then we watched a few videos. We worked together to create example sentences and then we ended with a timer game. I set a timer for 3 minutes and she had to create a list of as many verbs as she could.
Feedback provided to tutee: I only had to correct a few spelling errors and help her with the past and present difference, but she understood verbs really well. I encouraged her to take the time to think instead of resorting back to me or the examples. I helped her by thinking through her own personal interests and hobbies and she was able to come up with a lot of verb sentences.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: One thing I am still struggling with her is speaking. I think she still just needs to gain more confidence and she is a bit reserved, but she is very smart. One other thing that helped was me giving lots of word examples so that she can see the words not just sentences- almost like a vocab list. I also think it is a bit hard for her to be creative and come up with things, but I know she knows it. Next session we will be devoting time to learning how to write sentences and form them, then I will have her speak too for practice.
