Adelyn TS #15
Date/Time: February 7th, 3 pm
Location: Hecht House
Topic/Skill: During this session, Yara and I started off with a recap for her quiz- going over the different verb tenses and how to use them in sentences. We spent the whole session focusing on grammar. We learned about adverbs, articles, determiners, and prepositions. I had her focus on creating sentences verbally so she could speak more and then we created sentences and examples based on pictures on the board. We ended the session preparing her for her interview, just by practicing when to use past and present tenses when speaking.
Feedback provided to tutee: I only had to correct a few spelling errors and I helped her with the past and present difference, but she understood all of the grammar material really well. I encouraged her to take the time to think instead of resorting back to me or the examples. I also challenged her to think and speak instead of writing, I wrote example words and clues on the board. I also gave her feedback with articles and determiners because she struggles with that and taught her a few patterns to help.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: One thing I am learning with her is she loves to study and practice outside of class. Knowing this, I am planning to help her with a few more real world interactions and familiarize her a bit more with our culture.
