Date/Time: February 7th, 3pm

Location: Hecht House basement

Topic/Skill: Fatimah and I worked together to review and revise a paper she had written using feedback given to her by Dr. Kennell. In this hour, we focused on revising paragraphs 1-3.

Feedback provided to tutee: As we looked over Dr. Kennell's suggested edits, I worked towards helping her better understand terms that are used in the context of writing papers like flowery. I also gave tips and elaborated on formatting concerns. When it came to adding details to paragraphs, I guided her in focusing not just on adding the content but also in paying attention to and bettering organization and the flow of the paper. I also challenged her to expand on her comprehension of terms such as theories which directly related to the content of the paper. Helping her better understand more complex terms guided her in coming up with better phrasing and flow within the paragraph.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: One of the things Fatimah seemed to struggle with the most was the way the feedback was phrased. If a question or prompt is unclear, then it's pretty obvious that it will be hard for the tutee to discern what exactly they must do to better their work or get to the answer. Coming up with variations of the questions and/or a way to break them down to address them piece-by-piece are effective ways of approaching and overcoming this difficulty.
