Feedback provided to the tutee: While reading “Merry Christmas Peppa,” I asked Ye-won comprehension checks throughout to make sure she was understanding the story. We tried to relate ourselves to the character by talking about our experiences during the holidays and the bones we have broken. We also tried to imagine hypotheticals like how would the story have been different if it didn’t take place during Christmas.
Lessons Learned: I think that helping the student relate to the character, made it easier for her to recall the plot, and gave her some incentive to pay closer attention after a relationship had been built.
