Lillie TS #4
Date & Time: 2/1/24, 12:30-1:30pm
Location: CIES Building
Topic/Skill: Wei and I continued to practice speaking through conversation and expressing opinions off of silly conversation-starting question prompts
Feedback provided to the tutee: I avoided correcting every little pronunciation mistake and we focused on the more communicative parts. When she was reaching for a word she could not quite find, by giving me adjectives, we found the words she was looking for... Expressions like picking up/dropping off [kids] from school, having a sense of self/direction/etc, and overcoming obstacles requires bravery. We also had a fun time differentiating between sewing [machines], knitting, and crocheting.
Lessons learned: When having genuine conversations, it is very interesting to see interactionism unfold in front of me; Wei has been learning to read and write in English since middle school but has only begun working on speaking and listening in the last two years. Similarly to my experiences learning second languages in America, Wei's school only focused on receptive rather than productive skills.
