Location: CIES Building

Topic/Skill: Speaking. She told me stories of her weekend and explained that she moved apartments over the weekend. A friend from church helped her move, then she explained how she has gone to church a few times as a social/communal outlet. Wei had also just downloaded Instagram the night before, and asked me to run her through using it. 

Feedback provided to the tutee: We spent some time learning how to say Instagram. One hiccup she had was saying “he electric her,” so we talked about the word “electrocute.” She also asked me what the opposite of “brave” is, so we found words like coward & cowardly and talked about them functioning as a noun and adjective.

Lessons learned: I am enjoying standing in as a cultural ambassador through a seeming buddy system. We have fun comparing knowledge gaps and exchanging information, stories, and experiences.

He told me about his visit to the Museum of Natural History, the Empire State Building, and Central Park. His hometown is known for its chaotic traffic, and New York’s heavy traffic also reminded him of home.
