Topic/Skill: Conversation

Feedback provided to tutee: Sultan and I talked candidly about life on campus and school life in general. I offered ways to rephrase commonly expressed feelings in ways that sound more natural and native to an English speaker.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Much of our experiences are universal, yet language habits cause us to express these things differently. It seems quite possible however, and even beneficial, to overcome these barriers together through a shared linguistic experience. I think this bond can greatly facilitate language teaching and learning as well.

His hometown is known for its chaotic traffic, and New York’s heavy traffic also reminded him of home.
