Topic/Skill: Grammar

Feedback provided to tutee: Sultan showed me a humorous assignment from his grammar class featuring a music poster of a European pop duo called Lets Eat Grandma. He was having a hard time understanding the "issue" grammatically, so I asked him questions to try and get him there on his own. He eventually came up with the answer of adding a comma.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Even commonplace grammar lessons taught to natives have their use in ESL teaching. Sultan's instinct to try and understand the expression normally (as in eating something grandma made, not grandma herself) reflects the descriptive nature of our attempts to understand something that is seemingly far-fetched, but prescriptively true!
